"I found this not so hidden gem in the local newspaper. It advertised a high tea with homemade scones served with lemon curd & clotted creme. I was sold.

From the ease of the reservation making (highly recommend), to almost driving by this stunning old Victorian home located on a busy street set around other beautiful homes. There was free ample parking on site. You follow the red brick road up the stairs onto the wraparound porch. I’m not going to lie, I felt at home and I hadn’t even walked in yet.

Upon entering, we were greeted by friendly staff, an aroma of delicious smelling food & all things Victorian. Forgot your hat for high tea? It’s okay, there’s a rack of beautiful hats for purchase as you walk in. There are endless rooms of beauty. It’s not just for women while mostly that’s what I found. Bring a gentleman who loves the look of fine molding on the walls that an architect would drool over.

If the architectural beauty doesn’t bring drool, the soup is sure to while warming your soul. We had the Carrot Coconut Soup, it was heavenly! It was also able to be purchased and the price was incredibly reasonable. I know because one bowl wasn’t enough & I scooped up a quart for home!

There were over 100 choices of tea Once we chose our tea, we got to choose our tea cup. Every detail of this place wasn’t lost on me. The owner and staff go above and beyond to give you an incredible experience and it was.

Speaking of staff, Ashlyn was our incredible waitress. I’m sure the other wait staff can spew off the facts of the origin of the Mathis House while remembering to tell you everything that is being served to you all while keeping a smile as well as Ashlyn did.

Once our meal was over, we were able to tour the home. There was a room filled with great local sellable’s. I scooped up one of the last bee lotions they had on display.

Oh, I nearly forgot to mention the melt in your mouth vanilla scone that I had with the creme and curd, well, it was delectable!! And, you could buy scones and creme to take home.

I also noticed they have a calendar of events posted for the current and upcoming month. It’s not just tea, they’ll be a German dinner in the near future. Must go make that reservation now! Get to the Mathis House soon.

Excellent Well Managed B&B
"We spent two nights in the care of Innkeeper Vicki in this spectacular old home and we could not have felt more pampered and or more comfortable. Breakfasts were very good and the scones and pan chocolate are to die for. We were very comfortable in the Genevieve suite."

A Wonderful Stay! Nearly Perfect!
"This elegant Victorian is loving furnished with period antiques adding to the overall welcoming feeling. We stayed in the Queen Victoria room, which was very comfortable with a king-sized bed. The en suite bathroom has a nice shower (with plenty of hot water). The breakfasts were delicious and included fresh, in house-made scones, fresh-brewed coffee, and tea, yogurt, eggs, etc...just about anything you could desire. After a day out, there was always wine and other fresh cookies or pastries upon your return. But perhaps the best part was Vicki, the manager. Her warmth and hospitality made you feel like you were honored guests and well appreciated."
